Pop-up card: Van Gogh in 3D colors

For children aged 6 to 11

Painted during Van Gogh's convalescence in the south of France, Montagnes à Saint-Rémy (1889) expresses his state of mind through thick, dynamic brushstrokes. He also employs curved, swirling strokes and pure colors: yellow, green and blue in particular. We suggest that children create a pop-up card based on this principle.

Materials required

- a sheet of coloured A4 paper
- background and irises to print
- coloured pencils
- scissors and glue

Steps

Step 1 : Folding the coloured sheet

Fold the colored sheet in half.

Step 2: Landscape preparation

Cut out the outline of the landscape (a rectangle) and the outline of the irises.

Step 3 : Coloring

Color the landscape in Van Gogh's style, as well as the irises.

Step 4: Folding and cutting the strip

Fold the landscape you've just coloured along the thick line. Cut out the small strip, following the dotted lines. Be careful, you must only cut the 2 lengths of the strip.

Step 5: Collage

Place your landscape inside your colored sheet. Start by gluing half of it.
Put glue behind the sheet representing the landscape you've colored. Be careful not to get any glue on the tab.
Once you've glued this half-sheet, you can glue the second half.
Pull lightly on the tongue without tearing it. Put a dot of glue on the tab and stick your iris bouquet.

Your masterpiece is finished!
